- Turtles don’t have teeth – A turtle uses its beak-like mouth to grasp food. This beak is made of keratin, the same stuff your fingernails are made of.
- Marine turtles have an amazing sense of direction – Male sea turtles never leave the sea but females occasionally visit the beach. When it’s time to lay their eggs, females return to the same beach they hatched on!
- Sea turtles don’t retract into their shells – Unlike other turtles, sea turtles cannot retract their flippers and head into their shells. Their streamlined shells and large paddle-shaped flippers make them very agile and graceful swimmers. In the water, their rear flippers are used as rudders, for steering.
